Getting around Florida

Driving Florida — a rental car is essential outside city centers. Major airports: MCO (Orlando), MIA (Miami), FLL (Fort Lauderdale), TPA (Tampa). Disney's Magical Express ended in 2022 — pre-book a private transfer or rideshare from MCO. Cruise transfers from MIA / FLL run 25–40 minutes; most cruise lines bundle them.

Common questions

FAQ about Florida

What's the best time of year to visit Florida?+

April–May and October are sweet spots — warm weather, lower crowds, lower hurricane risk than summer. June–August is peak family travel; September has lowest prices but highest hurricane probability.

Do I need a rental car for Florida?+

For most trips, yes. Disney's internal transport works inside the resort, but anything beyond it — beaches, cruise ports, day trips — needs a car. Miami Beach is walkable but a car helps for the wider city.

Which Orlando hotels are closest to Disney?+

Wyndham Garden Lake Buena Vista is inside the Disney Springs Resort Area. Sonesta ES Suites and Parc Corniche are within 10 minutes. The Rosen Plaza is on International Drive (Universal-side).

Are theme park tickets included with hotel bookings?+

Not by default — but TheTravelClub members can bundle multi-day Disney/Universal tickets at member rates. Ask during booking.

What's the difference between Miami and Miami Beach?+

Miami is the city (Brickell, Wynwood, Little Havana). Miami Beach is the barrier island (Ocean Drive, Art Deco district, Lincoln Road). Most travelers want Miami Beach.

Which Fort Lauderdale hotels are best for cruise embarkation?+

Rodeway Inn near Port Everglades is purpose-built for cruisers. B Ocean Resort is on the beach with cruise-friendly transfers — better if you want a beach day before sailing.

How does hurricane season affect bookings?+

Atlantic hurricane season is Jun 1 – Nov 30, with peak risk Aug–Oct. We recommend cancellable rates plus travel insurance during these months. Most storms give days of warning.

Are there family resorts with kids-eat-free?+

Several of our Orlando hotels have kids-eat-free programs (Sonesta ES Suites, Parc Corniche). Confirm during booking — programs run seasonally.

What's the dress code for Miami Beach restaurants?+

Casual at lunch, smart-casual at dinner. South Beach hot spots may enforce 'no flip-flops' after 7pm. Bring one going-out outfit per traveler.

Can TheTravelClub combine flights and hotels?+

Yes — packages from US, Canada, and UK departure cities. Member rates apply to flight+hotel bundles too.

About Florida

A state that holds five trips at once

Florida is the only U.S. state that offers a Caribbean climate without leaving the country, and it stitches together five distinct trip styles into a single road map. Orlando and Lake Buena Vista anchor the family-and-theme-park economy, hosting the gravitational pull of Walt Disney World, Universal Orlando, and now Epic Universe.

Two hundred miles south, Miami Beach trades castles for Art Deco facades and pastel neon. Ocean Drive at sunset is the Miami most travelers picture, but the cultural depth runs deeper — Wynwood's mural district, Little Havana's cafés, Brickell's Latin-influenced fine dining.

Fort Lauderdale sits halfway between, with Las Olas Boulevard, the canal-laced "Venice of America" residential district, and Port Everglades — one of the world's busiest cruise ports. Tampa adds the Gulf coast, Busch Gardens, and a quieter family-vacation vibe.

For travelers from the U.S., Canada, and the U.K., Florida offers something rare: high-volume direct flights, no language barrier, and a wide spread of price points — from value family suites near Disney to oceanfront South Beach boutiques. Our 12 curated hotels reflect that range, organized by trip type rather than by star rating.
