ITALIA

Italy is really five trips stitched together. The Amalfi Coast stacks pastel villages up sea cliffs from Positano to Ravello. Lake Como mirrors Alpine foothills in Renaissance-villa water gardens. And the art cities — Rome, Florence and Venice — hold three thousand years of the West’s greatest architecture within a two-hour train ride of each other.

Our Italy selection focuses on Amalfi cliffside icons, Lake Como’s legendary villas, and the palace hotels of the art cities — all bookable at member rates with flexible cancellation.

Common questions

FAQ about Italy

When is the best time to visit Italy?+

May, June and September are ideal — warm, swimmable on the coast and lakes, and less crowded than July–August. Spring (April) and October are great for the cities.

How do I get to the Amalfi Coast?+

Fly into Naples (NAP), then a private transfer or the ferry to Positano, Amalfi or Ravello. The coast road is scenic but slow; ferries between towns are often faster in summer.

How far is Lake Como from Milan?+

About one hour by car or train from Milan to Como town, then a lake ferry or transfer to Tremezzo, Bellagio or Cernobbio.

Should I combine cities and coast in one trip?+

Yes — the classic itinerary pairs a coast or lake stay with one or two art cities, linked by high-speed train (Rome–Florence–Venice are each about 2 hours apart).

Are Amalfi and Como hotels open year-round?+

Most close from November to March. The art-city hotels (Rome, Florence, Venice) stay open all year.

Which are the icon hotels?+

Le Sirenuse (Positano), Belmond Caruso (Ravello), Passalacqua and Grand Hotel Tremezzo (Como), the Hassler (Rome), Four Seasons (Florence), and the Cipriani and Gritti Palace (Venice).

Do I need a car in Italy?+

Not for the cities or between them — trains are faster. A car helps for the Tuscan countryside, but on the Amalfi Coast and around the lakes, transfers and ferries are easier than driving.

Can The Travel Club arrange transfers, boats and guides?+

Yes — airport transfers, private Amalfi and Como boats, and city guides can all be bundled with your stay. Ask during booking.

About Italy

Coast, lake, and the cradle of the Renaissance

No country packs more distinct holidays into one border than Italy. The Amalfi Coast is the postcard south — a 30-mile ribbon of cliffside villages where hotels are carved into the rock and beaches are reached by elevator. Positano is the vertical icon; Ravello sits high above it in a world of clifftop gardens; Amalfi anchors the middle with its striped cathedral.

Three hours north, Lake Como bends between Alpine foothills, its shoreline lined with the Renaissance and Belle Époque villas that have drawn Europe’s aristocracy for four centuries. Passalacqua and Grand Hotel Tremezzo are among the most-awarded hotels on earth; Tremezzo’s floating pool and Bellagio’s promontory define the lake’s romance.

Then the art cities. Rome layers the ancient Forum and Colosseum under Baroque fountains and rooftop bars. Florence concentrates the Renaissance into a walkable core along the Arno. Venice floats — a city of canals, palazzi and light, best seen from a room on the Grand Canal. High-speed trains link all three in comfortable two-hour hops.

For travelers from the U.S., U.K. and beyond, Italy rewards a two-center trip: pair a coast or lake stay with one or two cities. Our 23 curated hotels span the cliffside legends, the lake villas, and the city palaces — organized by which Italy you’re here for.
