Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild — visit guide

5 min read·July 1, 2026

Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild, decoded

Baroness Béatrice Ephrussi de Rothschild built her Belle Époque fantasy on the narrowest point of the Cap-Ferrat peninsula in 1912 — a pink Italianate palazzo surrounded by nine themed gardens (French, Spanish, Florentine, Japanese and more) with sea views on both sides of the isthmus. It's the signature villa visit of the Riviera's peninsula of billionaires, and pairs naturally with Villa Kérylos, a recreated ancient-Greek villa a short drive away in Beaulieu-sur-Mer.

  • ✓Travelers pairing with Villa Kérylos in Beaulieu-sur-Mer

Por qué alojarse aquí

  • ●Nine themed gardens with sea views on both sides of the Cap-Ferrat isthmus.
  • ●The Riviera's definitive Belle Époque villa collection — furniture, porcelain and Impressionist paintings.
  • ●A 10-minute drive from Villa Kérylos for a full cultural half-day.

Inside the villa

The Baroness's collections — 18th-century furniture, Sèvres porcelain, tapestries and Impressionist paintings — fill rooms designed around her personal taste rather than any single period. The Salon de Musique and the Baroness's private apartments are highlights on the self-guided audio tour.

The nine gardens

The gardens are the real draw for most visitors — nine distinct themed spaces (French formal, Spanish, Florentine, Japanese, exotic, stone, rose, Provençal and Sèvres) wrapped around the villa, with the famous musical fountain show running on the hour in high season.
“The gardens alone justify the visit — nine themed landscapes wrapped around a Belle Époque palazzo, with sea views on both sides of the peninsula.”

Pairing with Villa Kérylos

Ten minutes away in Beaulieu-sur-Mer, Villa Kérylos is a meticulous 1900s recreation of an ancient Greek villa, built stone by stone using period techniques. Most cultural travelers combine both villas in a single day, with lunch in Beaulieu-sur-Mer or on Cap-Ferrat between them.
