Promenade des Anglais — visit guide

The Promenade des Anglais, decoded

The Promenade des Anglais is a 7-kilometer seafront walkway curling along Nice's Baie des Anges — built in the 1820s by the English winter colony that gave the promenade its name. Today it strings together the airport end, the Belle Époque palace hotels (the Negresco's pink dome is the landmark), the public beach chairs, and the entry to the Old Town near the flower market. It is the single most photographed stretch of the French Riviera outside Monaco's harbour.

Por qué alojarse aquí

  • ●Directly walkable from the Old Town, the flower market and the airport tram line.
  • ●The Negresco's pink dome and the Baie des Anges make it the Riviera's most photographed seafront outside Monaco.
  • ●Pebble beach with public concessions — no beach-club fee required to enjoy the water.

The walking route

Start at the Hôtel Negresco's pink dome — the promenade's most recognizable landmark — and walk east toward the Old Town, passing the Hyatt Regency and Anantara Plaza. The full promenade runs 7 km toward the airport in the other direction, but the photogenic 2-km stretch between the Negresco and the Old Town covers the highlights in about 40 minutes on foot.

Beach access and best light

Nice's beach is pebble, not sand — pack water shoes or rent a mat from the public beach concessions. Golden hour (an hour before sunset) is the classic photo window, when the Baie des Anges turns the water gold against the palace facades.
“The Promenade des Anglais is the Riviera's most walkable seafront — palace hotels, Old Town and public beach all inside one photogenic mile.”

Getting there and around

The promenade runs directly in front of Nice's Promenade-side hotels; the tram (line 2) parallels it a block inland. From Nice Côte d'Azur airport it's a 15–20 minute tram or taxi ride to the Negresco end.
