Cannes, La Croisette & Saint-Tropez glamour

The glamour Riviera — Cannes and Saint-Tropez side by side

Cannes and Saint-Tropez are the Riviera's two glamour capitals, and they work best together. Cannes is a walkable town of Belle Époque palace hotels strung along La Croisette, built around the Palais des Festivals and its mid-May film festival. Saint-Tropez, ninety minutes further west, trades Cannes' grandeur for fishing-village scale — the beach-club set on Pampelonne, the yachts in the Vieux Port, and a handful of legendary hotels that never let the village grow past a few streets deep.

Cannes — La Croisette palaces

The Carlton, Majestic and Martinez anchor La Croisette — the palm-lined seafront promenade that hosts red-carpet arrivals every May. JW Marriott and Five Seas add a modern, rooftop-pool alternative a few streets back. All are walkable to the Palais des Festivals, the Old Port, and the boat to the Îles de Lérins.

Saint-Tropez — the beach-club village

Hôtel Byblos is the village's nightlife institution; Hôtel de Paris Saint-Tropez adds a rooftop pool a short walk from the Vieux Port; Château de la Messardière sits on a hilltop estate above the village with sea views over Pampelonne. The beach clubs — Club 55, Nikki Beach — are a short drive or boat-shuttle from any of the three.
“Cannes gives you the palace-hotel red carpet; Saint-Tropez gives you the beach-club scene. Most glamour-focused trips do both.”

Combining the two

There's no train between Cannes and Saint-Tropez — it's a 90-minute drive, or a scenic day-boat in summer. Most travelers split 3–4 nights each, using Cannes for the walkable-town palace experience and Saint-Tropez for the beach-club days. Avoid driving into Saint-Tropez in August; the single coastal road backs up for hours.

Preguntas frecuentes

What's the difference between Cannes and Saint-Tropez?

+

Cannes is a walkable town of Belle Époque palaces on La Croisette. Saint-Tropez is a smaller fishing village turned beach-club capital, about 90 minutes west and best reached by car or yacht.

When is the Cannes Film Festival?

+

Mid-May each year. Expect a significant price spike and full palace hotels on those dates — book months ahead if you want to be in Cannes that week.

How do I get from Cannes to Saint-Tropez?

+

About 90 minutes by car via the coastal road, or a scenic day-boat in summer. There's no direct train — Saint-Tropez isn't on the coastal rail line.

Are the beach clubs expensive?

+

Loungers and service run roughly €30–120 per day at clubs like Club 55 and Nikki Beach on Pampelonne. Public beaches nearby are free.

Best month to avoid crowds in both towns?

+

September and October give warm sea and thinner crowds in both Cannes and Saint-Tropez, without the July–August peak-season prices.
