What staying in Deià & the Tramuntana is actually like
- Location
- The Ma-10 links Valldemossa, Deià and Banyalbufar along the top of the Tramuntana. Each village is small enough to walk in ten minutes, and none of them has a beach you can step onto.
- Dining
- Deià carries the reputation, but all three villages keep serious restaurants open into autumn. Book — these are ten-table rooms, not resort dining.
- Transit
- 30–40 minutes from Palma Airport on mountain roads. A hire car is effectively required; the coast road is slow and worth it.

The Deià property: a 16th-century estate with two pools, tennis courts and El Olivo, the restaurant the village is known for.
Tip: Boat excursions are complimentary — the way to reach Cala Deià without the walk down and back up.
Son Bunyola
The highest-rated of the three at 9.8, on the Banyalbufar coast a kilometre and a half above its own beach.
Tip: It is villas rather than hotel rooms, so the terrace and the hot tub are the property, not the lobby.
Valldemossa Hotel
Adults-only in Valldemossa with a heated spa pool, so it works later in the year than the other two.
Tip: The restaurant runs a Mediterranean-Japanese-Peruvian menu with a mountain view — worth booking even if you stay elsewhere.
