“Modern hotel, but the sewer smell, uncomfortable surroundings at night and serious reservation-data security issue made”

The room itself was modern, clean and comfortable, and having the metro so close is convenient for getting into central Amsterdam.

Unfortunately there were several significant issues. There was a very strong sewer smell coming from the shower drain, bad enough that we were putting a towel against the bathroom door to try to stop the smell reaching the room. We had to complain about it twice. The immediate area around the hotel also felt quite rough and poorly lit at night, which made returning after dark uncomfortable. Most concerning was a security incident before our stay. I received fraudulent WhatsApp messages containing details linked to my actual reservation. The hotel later confirmed that unauthorised access had occurred through a third-party provider and that personal information associated with the reservation may have been accessed. I also had to repeatedly chase for a meaningful response after reporting the fraudulent contact. Overall, these issues seriously affected what should have been a much better stay.
