⭐ 1/5 — Extremely disappointing and unacceptable Unfortunately, this was one of the worst hotel experiences I have ever had. The room was very dirty and poorly maintained. There was visible dust on the curtains, and there was mold on the bathroom shower curtain. The bathroom was also missing basic toiletries such as shampoo and shower gel. Considering how expensive the stay was, the level of cleanliness and basic service was completely unacceptable. But the worst part of our stay was that a mouse was running around inside our room. This was extremely disturbing and completely unacceptable for a hotel. When we reported the mouse to reception, instead of properly resolving the situation, we were initially told that they could only refund us for the last two nights and check us out. In other words, we would have been left to find somewhere else to stay at very short notice, despite having already paid for our accommodation. After a lot of pleading and insisting, they finally agreed to move us to another room. The second room was slightly cleaner, but the overall experience was already ruined. I understand that problems can sometimes happen in hotels, but dirt, mold, missing basic toiletries and, above all, a mouse inside the room are completely unacceptable, especially at the price we paid. I would definitely not recommend this hotel and would not stay here again.

“Such a beautiful traditional Dutch Hotel.”
The location itself was worth the money. It’s a 10-15min walk to and from central station, a less than 10 minute walk to and from Rembrantplein, and about a 15-20 minute walk away from Anne Frank Huis. There’s a lovely quiet spot 5mins down from the hotel where you can view the Amstel River and dancing houses at night, which makes for a great view. The hotel is on a quiet street too, albeit you still hear the odd person walking past talking at night if you’re on the first floor where we were. However, the canal view we had compensated a lot more for this. What’s more, you’re also given complimentary coffee and croissants on a morning from 9-11am. The owner of the hotel welcomed me and partner quite late on our first day due to a delayed arrival, and was a pleasure to speak to during our stay. He even complimented both my Netherlands and my old Ajax top from 2005-2006, which still serves as one of my first memories of visiting AmsterdamI, which I thought was a nice touch from him. No issues with the cleanliness or the room either. Whenever we come back to Amsterdam, I’d be returning here without hesitation.
Don’t read too much into the bad reviews. It’s a budget hotel, which still holds its original decor from back in the 14th century, but this is what makes it unique from anywhere else you’ll stay in Amsterdam for this price. There’s nothing negative to mention aside from the room could have done with a touch up of paint.
