“A magical family stay – Maldives vibe in Tulum”
A magical family stay – Maldives vibe in Tulum
We had an absolutely wonderful stay at Mereva with my family. From the moment we arrived, we received such a warm welcome that immediately made us feel relaxed and at home.
Our beach house was located right in front of the ocean, which made the experience truly special. Every morning we could step outside and watch the sunrise over the water, and in the evenings we enjoyed the most beautiful sunsets. The whole place has a peaceful, almost Maldives-like vibe that makes it perfect for a relaxing family vacation.
The room was very spacious and comfortable. I especially loved starting my mornings with coffee from the Nespresso machine while listening to the ocean. The pool overlooking the sea is absolutely stunning and such a beautiful place to spend time during the day.
Breakfast was excellent – freshly prepared with delicious fruit and eggs – simple but perfectly made. Yesterday we also tried the restaurant food and it was really good.
The entire staff was incredibly kind and welcoming, which made the stay even more enjoyable. The hotel surroundings are beautiful and very aesthetic, especially around the pool and the walking areas around the property. There is a certain richness and style to the place that makes it feel special without losing the relaxed beach atmosphere.
Our children had such a great time as well. They played with buckets and cards, and there was a small playhouse for kids right in front of our room, which was perfect. We also loved spending time on the dock relaxing on the loungers and enjoying the view.
The location is also fantastic, with many attractions nearby, including a famous cenote that was easy to visit from the hotel.
This is a vacation I will truly never forget. Mereva gave us such beautiful family memories and we would absolutely love to come back again. 🌅🌊✨

“Find somewhere else!”
Where to start with this place...if you want to be in Tulum, this is not the place; it's a long way north of the town itself. If you want to avoid the noise and crows in Tulum, it's a good spot.
The hotel is located down a bumpy and potholed track that leads past a few private houses and a few hotels. Reception was good, and our room was ready even though we'd got there a bit early. Then things started to slip. We had paid for a "partial sea view". Well, "partial" was doing a lot of heavy lifting - our room was one row back from the sea view room, and we had a really narrow view beside one of these room, leading to a wall of greenery that obscured any possible sight of the sea. The receptionist joked that they needed to do some gardening and cut the hedge back, but later inspection showed that it was the hedge between us and the next property, so there was no way it was ever going to be cut. Avoid Room 9 is my advice!
We were warned that the boiler for the shower was a bit temperamental, and sure enough - cold shower. They came and reset it, but it was a bit late then. They also showed us how to get the hot water, but pushed the handle in the wrong direction, so when we tried again, it was still cold - turns out the handle should have been pointing the other way! It was a shame, because the room itself was nice, although from the lack of storage (a wardrobe in the bathroom??) it's clear they don't expect people to stay for long.
Dinner was interesting. There's a board out on the beach that shows what food they do, including tacos. When we got into the restaurant, there was no menu - you have to have a smartphone with you, and scan a QR code, which leads to a fairly basic menu...with no tacos. Frankly, there wasn't much we fancied on there, so we asked about the tacos advertised on the beach, and were told that yes, they were of course available...! We ordered a beer, waited for the tacos, and when they arrived, we ordered another beer. We finished our tacos. We waited. We waited. Our beers had been placed on the bar 10 minutes before, but there were no staff; our waiter had gone into the kitchen; other staff were busy on their phones, and in the end we told them not to bother. Not a good experience.
Breakfast was equally haphazard - it was OK when it finally turned up, but the waiting staff really seemed like they didn't want to be there. On the second night, we walked up the rutted track to another hotel, the Casa Altemar, where the waiting staff were great, the food was excellent, but the beer was massively overpriced!!
The beach area is tired; one of the sunbeds was clearly broken, but that was removed (not replaced) on our second day. One pair of sunbeds was positioned directly under a coconut tree loaded with coconuts - really dangerous!
We were glad to leave; of all the hotels we've stayed in in Mexico, this was comfortably the worst.

“Comfortable, quiet, and delicious, with great views!”
Lovely, very quiet and safe, property with friendly staff and a beautiful view. The beach, however, is not easily swimmable, and the seaweed continues to accumulate here ( as well as all over the Caribbean, it seems).
Our ground floor room was very convenient and easy, but ground floor was not reserved for us, as promised, when we arrived. As my husband has difficulty with stairs that have no railings, a beautiful ground floor room was immediately found for us. We were provided with a very warm welcome, tour of the property and a welcome juice. (I would have liked to have been told more about what amenities were provided, like the kayak, snorkel equipment etc., and what was not provided.)
The room and bed were very comfortable, and the housekeeping was excellent, and cheerfully provided daily by polite, smiling young ladies! There were a couple of areas (shower/toilet and closet areas) that could use some deep cleaning/maintenance beyond routine cleans.
We had a lovely view of the sea and a comfortable covered patio, and a pool right outside our door. As the pool was not used very much, it was like having my private pool on some days!
Staff was always helpful. A couple of things went wrong (it's Mexico!), like toilet problems, but always with immediate response to resolve the problem.
Daily breakfast was plentiful and delicious! The restaurant has an excellent chef, and all meals were enjoyed. Much attention was given to presentation as well as to very good food. Extraordinary service was provided by Octavio and Jose Luis!! They were both so warm and friendly, and personalized our service.
The property is somewhat remote but, even without a car, we were able to vary our meals and view with two properties closely adjacent to the hotel. Recommend Casa Cenote for great service and food, with a Sunday BBQ and music.
A trip to the Tulum ruins was wonderful, but taxis are not cheap ($50 round trip for a 10 minute drive) . Car rental is probably a good idea when staying here, though the road is bumpy until you get out to the highway.
We had a wonderful, restful vacation, with thanks to all at Mereva!

“Mold. Bugs. Terrible.”
Absolutely awful. I asked for a partial refund and was denied - so I’m leaving this review to warn others. I paid for THE nicest room (5 star hotel prices) and our room had mold, bugs, cracks in the wall and tattered towels. I wish they would have been kind and just given me a discount but perhaps this review will save someone else an awful stay. Go spend your hard earned dollars somewhere else.
