“Hyatt Ziva Capa Cana”
This was my first time visiting the DR. There were four of us, my husband and two kids (14 and 16). The Hyatt Ziva is a beautiful resort. The rooms are spacious and nicely decorated. When making our reservation we requested 2 beds in one room and connecting rooms. When we checked in neither request was honored. We ended up changing rooms after two nights and upgrading to club level. This was a significant cost increase, that in my opinion, was NOT worth it. With the club level you get access to the club pool, Chinola for breakfast and Lunch, the Club Lounge and maybe a butler. Issues 1. Club Pool - in my experience the club level should feel exclusive and special. I felt neither in this pool area. It was crowded more often than not. The swim up bar was constantly covered up with young children splashing, throwing balls etc making it difficult if not impossible to order a drink. I totally understand that the pool is kid friendly, but the kids don't need to be hovering around the bar making it difficult for others to get a drink. My kids were a bit older (16 and 14) but not old enough to be on the adult side, although I believe it would have been a better fit over there. 2. Club pool - overall crowdedness. We had to reserve our spot at the pool first thing in the morning otherwise we lose out on a spot. Again this should be an exclusive experience which it was far from. We actually ended up at the regular pool sometimes as it was less crowded. 3. Food - I don't want to have unreasonable expectations for the food quality, but the food overall was bad. For example, we had pasta at Noodle and Thread and the pasta (on two dishes) was barely cooked. The service was also so slow. We had the buffet for breakfast several days. The buffet has tons of options, but nothing was really good. For me, the eggs had too much oil cooked in them. The waffles and pancakes weren't fresh. I don't think it's that hard to make them to order or at least serve them hot. The coffee, on more than one occasion, had a ton of grounds in it. I think they tried too hard and just missed the mark. Just keep it simple and good. Also, for dinner the wine options were pitiful. As a Club Level guest we should be allowed to have Pino Grigio or additional options other than cold merlot, a crappy Cab, Chardonnay or Sauv Blanc. That was really disappointing. Prontoz was the best food option by far. 4. The room situation initially was frustrating given that we did not get either of our requests honored. I realize they were not promised, so I didn't dwell on it. However, housekeeping was very disappointing. There were two days our room was not cleaned at all. Once because they came to clean at 5pm and I was in the shower. The other day they just didn't show up. The days where housekeeping did show up the earliest was 4pm. That is unacceptable. At 4pm we are returning to our room to relax for a bit and get ready for dinner. We should return to a clean room. In addition our mini bar was not restocked. The pringles, by the way, had the worst taste. I can't even begin to explain what it tasted like. And it wasn't just one box. It was most of them. 5. Room Service - there was three times that we ordered room service that no one ever showed up. Once I ordered wine, once our butler ordered missing items from our original order and once my daughter ordered a pizza. They just never showed up. 6. Butler Service - he was nice and friendly, but did nothing for us. Not sure what the point was. With all that said, we did enjoy ourselves. The resort is beautiful. The staff at the pool are wonderful with getting drinks. The activities were fun for the kids. They should limit the amount of people they allow in the club level even if they have to charge more. It was and absolute waste of money.

“Superb destination!”
Truly the best vacation I’ve ever had in Dominican Republic ! It took time for me to write this review, and after I went to other hotels in Dominican - Hyatt deserves all the praise. It’s clean, welcoming, delicious and just superb ! I wish I could afford to travel only to Hyatt. After this resort I can’t enjoy anything else ! It’s truly amazing !
