Cannes — La Croisette's palace-hotel scene

Cannes is a walkable town built around one address — La Croisette, the palm-lined seafront promenade where the Carlton, Majestic and Martinez have hosted festival royalty since the 1940s. Beyond the red carpet, Cannes offers a genuinely liveable old town (Le Suquet), an active marina, and boat access to the Îles de Lérins — quiet monastery islands a short crossing offshore.

Ideal für

  • ✓Film Festival travelers and classic Riviera palace-hotel seekers
  • ✓Couples wanting a walkable town with beach clubs and a boat-accessible island day
  • ✓Travelers pairing Cannes with a Saint-Tropez extension

Warum hier übernachten

  • ●Every Croisette hotel is a five-minute walk from the Palais des Festivals red carpet.
  • ●The Îles de Lérins are a 15–20 minute ferry away for a quiet island half-day.
  • ●A genuinely walkable town, with Le Suquet's old-fishing-quarter contrast a ten-minute stroll from the beach clubs.

La Croisette vs Le Suquet

La Croisette holds the palace hotels and beach clubs — the Carlton, Majestic and Martinez all directly on the seafront, with JW Marriott and Five Seas a few streets back offering rooftop pools at a lower price point. Le Suquet, the old fishing quarter on the hill above the port, offers a quieter, more local counterpoint a ten-minute walk from La Croisette.

Cannes Film Festival

Each mid-May, the Palais des Festivals hosts the world's premier film festival, and the Croisette palace hotels sell out months ahead at a significant premium. Outside festival season, Cannes runs at a noticeably calmer, more affordable pace than Monaco or Saint-Tropez in high summer.
“Cannes in festival week and Cannes in September are two different towns — decide which one you're booking for.”

Day trips from Cannes

The Îles de Lérins are a 15–20 minute ferry from the Vieux Port — Île Sainte-Marguerite (the Man in the Iron Mask's fortress) and Île Saint-Honorat (a working monastery). Saint-Tropez is 90 minutes west by car; Nice and Monaco are 45 and 60 minutes east.

Was ist in der Nähe

  • La Croisette—On site
  • Îles de Lérins—Boat from Vieux Port
  • Saint-Tropez—90 min by car
  • Cap d'Antibes—20 min by car
  • Nice—45 min by car/train

Fortbewegung vor Ort

Nice airport is 45 min by car, or take the coastal train to Cannes station (10 min walk to La Croisette). Fully walkable within town; a car helps for Saint-Tropez and Cap d'Antibes day trips.

Wann besuchen

Avoid mid-May unless the Film Festival is the draw. April–June and September–October give the best weather-to-crowd balance; July–August is hot and busy but the beach clubs are at full tilt.

Häufig gestellte Fragen

When is the Cannes Film Festival?

+

Mid-May each year. Expect sold-out palace hotels and a significant price premium on those dates.

How do I get to the Îles de Lérins?

+

A 15–20 minute ferry from the Vieux Port at the western end of La Croisette.

Is Cannes walkable?

+

Yes — La Croisette, Le Suquet and the Vieux Port are all within a comfortable walking radius of each other.

How far is Saint-Tropez from Cannes?

+

About 90 minutes by car; there's no direct train, so a car or seasonal boat is required.
