Olga Lea Wesson
Travel Editor
Lea Wesson has lived in two countries and travels like she is scouting a third. Ukraine first, then New York, which kept her a lot longer than she planned. Miami is home now, in the sense that it is where her suitcase sleeps between trips.
Thirteen years of building brands means she knows exactly how a hotel makes a beige room sound like a spiritual event. The lens is wide-angle. The "boutique" has 400 keys. The "steps from the beach" involves a highway. She has seen the deck. She has made the deck.
Freelance since forever, so the office moves with her: a good coworking with decent coffee, a hotel room with the balcony door left open, a rented villa where the kitchen actually works. Comfort counts as equipment in this job. And three weeks anywhere is enough to start reading a city from the inside: who bakes real bread, what hour the waterfront empties out, why locals give the main square a wide berth.
Hotels she picks by mood, unapologetically. Some months call for white sheets, quiet, and a sea you can hear from bed. Others call for an old house with character, where the owner opens the door himself and by the second evening is pouring you something from his own stash.
Speaks English, Ukrainian and Russian. Keeps a list of towns she means to return to. It has never once gotten shorter.
