“Disappointing and dirty”
The only positive of the hotel was the location.
First of all, I’m not sure who awarded this hotel 5 stars but it is 2-3 stars at best. The room we had was incredibly dirty. The shower had an unacceptable amount of mould and there was slime and thick limescale buildup around the taps. To top it off there was a cup left in the bathroom that had slime in the bottom. I told staff about this and they failed to even replace it throughout the 4 days we were there. There was also a thick layer of dust on all surfaces throughout the room and the glasses and kettle had obviously not been cleaned recently. The worst part of the stay was the complete lack of soundproofing in the rooms. We stayed on the 5th floor and had a lift directly outside our room and could hear every single level being announced on the way down all night and day long. We requested to change rooms however, when we were showed a new room it was clear that none of the rooms had sufficient soundproofing. The staff also gave off the impression that they were well aware of all the issues that were going on so I’m assuming management is a nightmare. The final nail in the coffin was the breakfast. If you do decide to stay here I STRONGLY recommend to avoid it at all costs. To say the food was awful would be an understatement. Everything was dry, overcooked and stale. The eggs were particularly horrendous and overcooked to an offensive degree and all fruit and vegetables looked like they’d been sitting in the sun for several days. All in all, if you value your sleep, enjoy a nice breakfast and prefer not to contract airborne mould related illnesses I would strongly advise against staying at the Sura Haga Sophia hotel.
