“Paradise”
As frequently returning guests at this fabulous hotel, each time our stay gets better & better. From the moment you step into the vast lobby & see those amazing iconic 3 chandeliers, our smiles returned from a tiring 24 hrs plus of travelling from the UK,to being checked in by Alicia ( same as last year). We were given a fabulous room (2128) from which we were fortunate to see a troop of 30 plus cotamundi one night & many a roaming agouti about. We were fortunate to see a howler monkey too. Our room was perfectly appointed, spotlessly clean ( thank you Amanda for our towel creations), beds & pillows were so comfortable. The food as always is extremely good & the hardest thing you have to do is choose what you want from the vast array of cuisines each morning, lunchtime & evening. There are 5 themed restaurants if you want a more formal experience, however the Don Julien was perfectly for us. ( Thank you Edward, our charming waitress, who has been there many years) After our evening meal we finished our night with drinks in the lobby bar listening to the accomplished pianist Fellipe. We noticed that for the more youthful guests, there was more active nightly entertainment advertised. The managerial staff were always walking around & interacting with the guests each day. This gives this hotel a more personal experience for the guests. We are beach lovers, here, there has never been an issue of getting a sun bed, there are lots, just choose where you want to relax. Under the palm trees is idyllic. The location of this hotel is perfect. A leisurely stroll ( about 45 mins for us) through a tree lined avenue of amazing mini mansion homes, will take you to Playa del Carmen,a shoppers delight, we sit & people watch whilst having drinks. It's all safe too. We felt safer here than back home. If you have the time try & go to the Cirque du Soleil show, Joya, the food & show are amazing. There are refurbishing plans from May to September this year so the hotel will be closed. A perfect holiday,14 nights passed so quickly

“Now double standards,Americans only”
Hotel is in the right palace after 33 times why would I return answer the staff . But this time via TUI I have book for November expecting the same hotel and no indication from TUI when I booked is that the hotel is going to be closed for 3 months June July August for refurbishment that will be nice . BUT only finding out on RIU site that they are introducing an elite section to the hotel. This I do not like as when I book in to a hotel I would like to be treated the same as all the guests now there will be double standards. If I had known I would not have book this hotel, the situation will be you can’t go here you can’t go there you can only eat here. When I made contact with TUI and ask if I may upgrade the answer I got was NO ,it seems the elite section is only for Americans. Plus in this hotel there is not enough pool space to split the pools for double standards. This is going to be uncomfortable and it was to be special for my wife’s 70th birthday. TUI says you booked can’t do anything about it. The minimum I would have liked the same room we had but that goes to an elite guest. Call TUI before booking hotel.
