Why Florence is the smart Tuscan base
Chianti, Val d'Orcia and Montalcino as day trips
“You don't need a countryside hotel to experience Tuscany's hills — you need a car, a day, and Florence as your base.”

Tuscany's countryside — the Val d'Orcia's cypress-lined hills, Chianti's vineyards, Montalcino's Brunello wine estates — has no standalone hotel inventory in our lineup, and honestly, it doesn't need one. Florence is the region's gateway city, close enough to the countryside that day trips south are entirely realistic, while keeping you inside a walkable Renaissance capital with its own Duomo, Uffizi and Arno riverfront to fill the rest of a stay.

Come spostarsi
A rental car or private driver is essential for the countryside — no practical train or bus network reaches Chianti, the Val d'Orcia or Montalcino. Florence itself is fully walkable.
Quando visitare
Late spring (May–June) and September–October give the best countryside weather for day trips — green hills and wildflowers in spring, harvest and golden light in autumn.
Not in our lineup — the smart approach is to base in Florence, the region's gateway city, and day-trip out into Chianti, the Val d'Orcia or Montalcino.
Chianti begins within 45 minutes; the Val d'Orcia and Montalcino are roughly 90 minutes to two hours further south.
Yes — a rental car or private driver is essential, since there's no practical public transport network through the countryside.
Late spring (May–June) for green hills and wildflowers, or September–October for harvest season and golden light.
