What staying in Alcúdia bay is actually like
- Location
- Alcúdia bay runs about 10 km from the old walled town through Port d'Alcúdia to Platja de Muro and Can Picafort. The water is shallow a long way out along the whole of it.
- Dining
- Port d'Alcúdia has the restaurants and the nightlife; Platja de Muro is resorts and little else. Alcúdia old town is the good evening out.
- Transit
- About 50 minutes from Palma Airport — the longest transfer of the Mallorca pages. A car is useful but not essential.

Tennis and padel courts, a lagoon pool, an indoor pool and a spa — the widest facility set on the bay.
Tip: Family rooms come with kitchenettes; the gym runs classes rather than just holding equipment.
Las Gaviotas Suites Hotel & Spa
Suites with balconies in gardens, a free spa, and an adults-only pool area separate from the main pools.
Tip: The adults-only pool is the reason to pick this one over its neighbours on the same beach.
Valentin Playa de Muro
Bungalows inside the S'Albufera nature reserve, pines to the door, sports pitch and gym on site.
Tip: It is a bungalow complex rather than a hotel block — quieter, but you walk to everything.
Playa Esperanza Resort Affiliated by Meliá
Sixty thousand square metres of garden between the rooms and Platja de Muro, with a spa and indoor pool.
Tip: The grounds are large enough that the room's position matters — ask how far it is to the beach gate.
Grupotel Port D´Alcudia
The one actually in Port d'Alcúdia, 300 m from the beach with a court and a poolside bar.
Tip: Closest of these to the resort centre and its nightlife — a different trade from the Platja de Muro properties.
Frequently asked questions
Is Platja de Muro the same as Alcúdia?
It is the middle stretch of the same bay, administratively a different municipality. Most of the bay's tennis-and-pool resorts are there rather than in Alcúdia proper.
Are the tennis courts included?
Usually charged by the hour, with racquet hire at the desk. The larger resorts here have several courts and take bookings a day ahead.
Is the bay good for children?
It is the reason the resorts were built here — the water stays shallow for a very long way out, along the whole bay.
