“A hidden gem”
An almost entirely excellent hotel. In many ways it’s a bit like the Pierre in NY: an elegant reception is set well back from the road (good for security), reception staff are pleasant and helpful, rooms though compact are well designed. The rooms are smartly furnished - think the Mark but less gaudy. Even the bathroom sink plugs work and you get a proper bar of soap! The knocks are that although the room is well sound-insulated from the corridor, insulation between rooms is not so good; north facing rooms are cold in winter because of the hotel’s green policy of limiting the aircon temperature and the food is nothing to write home about - a simple vegetarian pasta dish missed a key ingredient and the breakfast avocado and poached egg had an unpleasant guacamole instead of avocado. The answer to this is to eat out as there are plenty of great restaurants nearby.
